The lake itself is an old channel of
one of the most beautiful rivers in Bashkortostan, called the Ufa
River. Here grows water nut. People have been eating it since the
ancient times as some nutshells were found during the excavations
of places inhabited during the Paleolithic Age. Besides, the lake
Upkanny-Kul is the only place in the republic where this plant grows.
In the bushes near the lake one can often find cranes, herons and
ducks nesting in there. |
