The Lake Asly-Kul
The lake is a complex monument of nature. It serves as a transitional reservoir for many birds of passage. The lake constitutes a part of the National Park Asly-Kul, organized to preserve unique flora and fauna. The lake was formed in a wide hollow of a huge karst depression, filled in with water at the expense of precipitation and subsoil waters. It is the largest lake in the republic. Its territory is 18 square kilometers. The water in the lake is a bit salty as cooking salt prevails in it. In the vicinity of Asly-Kul there grow a lot of species of relic herbs and undergrowth. This is the only place where pelicans used to nest in Bashkortostan.
