The given monastery existed under Boris
Godunov. Today apart from the spiritual tenement for men, there
are also situated the Public Diocesan Library and the Church-Ethnography
Museum. The monastery was built in the place, where there had been
Bogorodskoye Settlement. References to this settlement can be found
in Pushkin's Kapitanskaya Dochka. According to the legends in the
seventeenth century peasants in Kadomtzovo Settlement saw the icon
of Kazan Our Lady. After this incident the settlement was renamed
into Bogorodskoye. In 1881 a Baroque temple was erected in honor
of Kazan Our Lady. |
