The Nikolsky Temple in Nikolo-Berezovka
The Nikolaskaya Church is the highest cult building in the republic. The temple and the town in is situated in (Nikolo-Berezovka) are called in honor of the icon image of Nikola Chudotvoretz, which appeared on a birch tree in 1550. A lot of various legends are connected with this icon. In 1910 a sister of the Empress Elizaveta Fedorovna came here as a pilgrim. A missionary monastery was erected in the vicinity of the Nikosky Temple. First it was used as a monastery for Mari young men and then as a nunnery for Chuvash girls.
